Frequently Asked Questions.

How will you communicate important information?

Communication is an essential element to our program. We communicate with families in two ways.

Email:  We need an accurate email for students 13 years and older and a parent.  Email will be used to communicate important information that you will need to know to keep up to date with your rehearsals, tickets, costumes, and more.

Cast Only Website Page: There will be a Password Protected Page on our website that will be accessible to families and cast members for each specific show. Families are encouraged to check this page every day for announcements and updates.

When are rehearsals?

Each rehearsal schedule is created after all conflicts are reviewed.  Summer Musical rehearsals often rehearse Monday through Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons.  Winter Play rehearsals typically rehearse Monday and Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons.  Rehearsals are scheduled so not all actors have to be present at all rehearsals until the final tech week.

How are rehearsals run?

  • Students are expected to be 10 minutes early to every rehearsal.  The time listed is the rehearsal start time, not the arrival time.

  • Students are required to bring a pencil and their provided script to all rehearsals.  Even if they know their lines and songs, they should bring their script

  • Students are not allowed to leave the rehearsal or the theater at any time during scheduled rehearsals and performances.

  • Cell phones are not allowed while on stage during rehearsals and shows.

  • Shoes must be closed toed. NO FLIP FLOPS! Wear comfortable clothes that you can move in.

  • Lines are due when requested. At each rehearsal, new scenes are blocked, and choreography is taught, so reviewing your parts at home is encouraged.

  • If necessary, SSP reserves the right to reassign lines and/or parts.

  • Pick up actor promptly after rehearsals.

  • We have open rehearsals.  This means parents can attend rehearsals.  If a parent chooses to attend a rehearsal, it is important they do not interfere with the process during the rehearsal. The directors and designers are professionals and have a specific style and vision for the show. In addition, parents should refrain from directing their child or question artistic decisions outside of rehearsals.

How do you cast your productions?

When casting a production, SSP takes many things into consideration. Talent, while important, is only one aspect of casting a production.  Each production has a unique style of acting, dancing and singing need.  Not everyone fits into every style.  In addition, the ‘look’ of the show is important.  Some examples include - an ensemble needs to look older, two actors playing a married couple need to look good together, an actor cast as a younger brother needs to be shorter than his sister and parents.

Please support the professional training and experience of our production team.  Encourage your children to be enthusiastic about their roles, regardless of size.  SSP puts as much attention in the character development and training of our ensemble as we do our leading roles.  Most of our ensemble actors are leading role material, but only a few can be leads.  The show is better because we have high quality performers in the ensemble as well.

What if I can’t make rehearsal?

SSP will only accept absences based on Conflict Sheets turned in at auditions. The ONLY exception is illness. Please be prompt for rehearsals. Late arrivals are a disruption to the other actors. Every Cast Member must attend Tech Rehearsals, no exceptions.

Can I take pictures? Video?

Parents are invited to the final night of Dress Rehearsal during Tech Week to watch the show (PARENTS ONLY) and can take photographs. Posting video of any part of a rehearsal or performance on-line is an infringement on copyright laws and could result in SSP being fined or restricted from doing certain productions.

Is there a fee to participate?

SSP has an all-inclusive fee to participate in our productions.

  • Summer Musical fee:  $175

  • Non-musical fee is $100

The fee includes a show t-shirt and attendance to a cast party.
